Frequently Asked Questions

If you have questions beyond what we have asked and answered here, feel free to reach out to your youth leaders, a member of the Stake Young Men's or Stake Young Women's Presidencies or Brother and Sister Baker.

When is Trek?

Wednesday, June 24th- Saturday, June 27th 2026. There will also be a fireside for all Trek participants and their parents on Sunday, June 28th.

Where is Trek being held?

Trek will be at the Bing Canyon Pioneer Camp in Prosser, WA. This is in the southeast corner of Washington near the Tri-cities. There is not a specific address but you can find it on Google Maps by searching for the Bing Canyon Pioneer Camp. From Maple Valley the drive is about 3 hrs 40 min.

How far will we be walking?

Each day, the youth will be pulling their handcarts with their families an average of about 5-6 miles a day.

Are they going to starve us like the handcart stories I've heard?

We want the youth experience to be authentic... but not that authentic! The stake will be providing a full 3 meals every day and each family will have snacks and plenty of water on the trail. No one will go hungry. We actually do not want the youth to fast during any portion of the trip due to dehydration, heat stroke, and other health concerns. We do ask the youth to not bring any food or snacks with them unless they have coordinated with youth leaders ahead of time.

Can I go on a portion of Trek?

The remote locations, full agenda, and close "family" relationships of Trek make it necessary for youth to attend the entire event.

What sort of medical services are going to be provided?

There will be a trained medical team that stays with the group throughout the entire week. They will be readily available with all medical supplies needed for trek participants. If any youth have regular prescription medications that they need to take, they can bring them and take them as prescribed, or if preferred, the medical team can assist in keeping youth on schedule for medications.

How will we get to and from Trek?

Youth will travel from the MV Stake Center in the cars of the adult leaders from their respective wards. For the return trip, they will travel back in the same car that they came in.

What is a "Trek Family"?

Each young man or young women will be assigned to a Trek Family. The bishops in the stake have carefully selected “Ma’s and Pa’s” from each ward. These individuals will lead your family for the duration of the Trek. Other members of your Trek Family will be other young men and young women from the different Wards throughout the stake. Each family will have between 7 and 9 youth.

Why are electronic devices not allowed?

  • This is a tremendous opportunity to get out of the world and worldly influences.

  • This allows for better opportunities to feel the spirit in our lives.

  • It allows for better interaction with family members and other trek participants.

  • There are no power outlets on the trail
